But it’s a problem when it actively prevents another person from getting an opportunity.
You should absolutely put your kids in the best position to be successful in life.
On the controversy of Bronny James benefiting from his father, Lebron James’ success: Bronny has a dream of playing in the NBA. He’s put in his own work and deserves a meaningful chance to succeed on his own terms. Bronny has the benefit of supportive parents and a vast community of people who wouldn’t question if they can lend a helping hand to Bronny’s success.
People expect him to be successful. Now being able to meet those expectations and becoming your own person are other challenges, but it remains that there are people who are pulling for Bronny to become successful in the NBA. Just the idea of being in an environment where people are cheering for you is different from the environments that other kids are growing up in.
Especially in public school systems, the age-old question for our graduates is “what will you do next”? Most kids without proper guidance will say “college, military, or enter the workforce”. But these are often goals that aren’t clearly measured nor tied to the kids’ internal dreams and passions.
As the school system stands, young people across the United States are gambling with their future. Whatever next steps these graduates choose they SHOULD have the same level of support that Bronny James has access to. There’s never going to be guarantees, but we’re doing our kids a disservice by not giving them everything they need to be successful.
Imagine a world where young people from all walks of life can benefit from the same support systems that Bronny James is benefiting from. School systems need to act with greater levels of community support and the belief that all of our young people are assets.
