The Dreams Of Immigrant Students.

Getting away from my family and leaving my country has not been easy for me. Like many young immigrants, I came to this country to have more educational opportunities although for most of us language is a very big barrier, but I will not let this stop me. My desire to improve myself is greater than these barriers.

Over time I have learned how things work in American schools. At first I was afraid. Since I didn’t know how they would treat me. These words were spinning in my mind, “They will either treat me well or they will look down on me for being an immigrant and not being able to speak English” but the truth is that like the other students (who are born in this country) I also have the same opportunities that they do.

I was fortunate to attend a school that has a newcomer program that offers immigrant students help not only with the language but also help with adapting to schools and how they work. They also help to ensure that language is no longer a barrier to learning and achieving your goals.

I think that like this school, all the others should have a program similar to this one that helps immigrant students. Because for education there are no borders or barriers that stop you.

Don’t think that because you are an immigrant you don’t have the same opportunities. You can achieve everything you set your mind to!! And remember that if you are attending school you will never be alone and you will always have the support of your teachers and counselors. The United States and its schools are the way to achieve your dreams.

We are more than immigrants, we are people who leave our country to fight for our dreams. Don’t let fear be bigger than your dreams!!
